Insulated glass units are double paned windows which means there are two pieces of glass with a seal in the middle. These are also referred to IGs. We must order these, and we usually receive the glass within 7-10 business days. IGs come in a variety of thicknesses and the thickness does depend on the size of the unit. Common thicknesses are 7/16, 5/8, 3/4, 1/2- and 1-inch units.
They also come in several kinds of glass as they can be made with J-3 obscure or rain patterns for example. We also provide grey or bronze just to name a few. Units can also be clear, or we can add a low-e tint to the glass. The low-e tint is a slight green which is difficult to see with the naked eye; however, it does provide energy efficiency.
Insulated glass units can also consist of different kinds of glass. They can have tempered, annealed or laminated glass within the unit.
IG’s also come with or without muntins. Muntins are horizontal and vertical grids within the two pieces of glass. We need the muntin thickness, color and pattern in order to make the glass. Customers are welcome to pop out the window sash / frame and bring it to our shop so we can get all of the information and measurements for you or we can send someone out to your home / business to get the information and measurements to provide a free quote.
